Performances and workshops

I am greatly looking forward to giving three performance workshops in April.

1) On  Friday, April 22nd I will be playing a lunchtime recital at 1.15 pm at Bristol University followed by a public master class.

2) On Sunday, April 24th I will have the privilege to collaborate with my colleague Eleanor Hodgkinson on a workshop/performance on the piano duo works by Peter Gellhorn at the Royal College of Music in London. Janet Hilton will join us on the clarinet in “Thought on a Chinese Tune for clarinet and piano duet”. This event which will take place from 2-5 pm and is part of the project “Singing a Song in a Foreign Land” organised by the singer and coach Norbert Meyn.

3) On Wednesday, April 27th I as part of the Trio Sonore will be giving a workshop for composers at Leeds College of Music.  Together with my colleagues Karin de Fleyt and Alfia Nakipbekova I will perform and discuss works for flute,  cello and piano written by LCoM composers.

Collaboration with Jia Zhang

It has been a true privilege and pleasure to collaborate with the Chinese pianist Jia Zhang. We first met in Tianjin when I was giving a recital and master class there in March. In the meantime Jia has spent 6 months in York on a research project. We performed a programme of piano solo and duo works by Mozart, Scriabin, Berg and Arensky in York and in Leeds. I sincerely hope this won’t be the last time we collaborate. By the way we also discovered that we are both “grandchildren” of some of the worlds greatest pianist: Jia studied with Margareta Fiodorowa, a pupil of Heinrich Neuhaus in Moscow and I with Yonty Solomon who was one of the very few student of Myra Hess.

Contemporary Music

Recently I have embarked on two exciting projects focussing on contemporary music.

This autumn and early 2015 I will be performing in several trumpet and piano recitals and composers’ workshops together with Simon Desbruslais   and Deborah Pritchard. These will take place in London, Eton College and Leeds College of Music with the next event being held on Sunday, October 19th at 5 pm at Royal Academy of Music, Josefowitz Hall launching Simon’s CD of New British Trumpet Concertos.

With keen anticipation I also look forward to a new collaborati0n with the flautist Karin de Fleyt and the cellist Alfia Nakipbekova, both wonderful colleagues at Leeds College of Music and distinguished musicians. We are currently focussing on repertoire by George Crumb and Kaija Saariaho with the launch of the trio to take place in spring 2015. More details soon…
