Biography

Jakob Fichert is a pianist with an international profile. He has performed extensively in the UK and abroad and has recorded for Toccata Classics, Resonus Classics, Métier (Divine Art Recordings Group) and Naxos to great critical acclaim both as a soloist and collaborating artist.

 

Chamber Music and Lied repertoire has always been at the heart of his playing career. On concert stage and in recording studio he has collaborated with numerous high profile musicians. Amongst these are cellists Matthias Gredler, Pavlos Carvalho and Alfia Nakipbekova, the clarinetist Janet Hilton, the flautist Karin de Fleyt and trumpeter Simon Desbruslais.  

 

Jakob won numerous prizes at international competitions both as a soloist and chamber musician. He studied at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe with Wolfgang Manz before undertaking a postgraduate course at the Royal College of Music in London under the tutelage of Yonty Solomon. He also obtained a Masters Degree in Chamber Music graduating in 2001 after which he was awarded a RCM Junior Fellowship.

 

In 2023 Jakob obtained a PhD at University of York, writing on the piano works of Adolf Busch. His research has led to two publications for Breitkopf & Härtel, both are editions of works by Busch, and a continuous collaboration with Bettina Beigelbeck and the Busch Kollegium Karlsruhe.

 

A much in demand pedagogue Jakob has given numerous master classes for conservatoires, universities and music specialist schools in the UK, China, Mexico and, most recently, in Chile.  He works as an examiner for ABRSM and holds the position of Principal Lecturer in Piano at Leeds Conservatoire. He also works as specialist piano tutor at the Universities of York, Leeds and Hull.
